Doris & Dennis1930
As told by my grandmother, Winifred Austin, Doris and Dennis's mother Lily (nee Stride) was dying and asked Florence Austin (my great grandmother, nee Stride) if she could take the two kids, Doris and Dennis, when she passed away. Florence had eight children of her own and there wasn't any extra space or money for two more children so when Lily died in 1932 the two children were placed in an orphanage (probably Middlemore Homes in Birmingham, Warwick), they were then sent to Canada. My grandmother said that it always upset her mother a great deal that she was unable to keep the children with the family and always wondered what happened to them. Unfortunately my grandmother can not remember what the married name of Lily Stride was at the time of her death, therefore finding the children in the home children pages and records is an almost impossible task... So far I've got two marriage certificates for Lily strides that don't appear to be the correct ones... I hope to solve this puzzle one day and re-unite my grandmother with her "Canadian" relatives.
